Medina business and service clubs offer Youth Outreach Services at Local CUPS Cafe. Tim Van Arsdale has created a place in Medina, which opened its doors in November 2007, where young people facing a dark time in their lives can pause to catch their breath and hang with their friends over a soft drink and a sandwich. CUPS Café is a nonprofit community café at 126 N. Court Street, that doesn’t need a cash register because everything on the menu is free. We are encouraged by our community partnerships with Medina Sunrise Rotary* (youth literacy and Life Skills Training programs),, Let's Make a Difference (after school programs), and STEM (OSU Extension Office' s vocational programs for youth). |

Subject
The purpose of the speech is to apply the principles of Rotary International’s 4 Way Test to a current ethical issue. Students are challenged to identify a topic they feel passionate about and to adopt a point of view from which they will seek to persuade others. It should be something from the speaker’s personal experience or general knowledge. There are no restrictions regarding the choice of topic as long as it is not blatantly offensive. Names of Medina Sunrise Rotary Winners, from Cloverleaf High School:
#1 Vanessa Monhemius
#2 Zach Bronson
#3 Leah Archer
Each part of the Four-Way Test should be addressed during the speech. They should be specifically stated, as the intent of the speech is to use the 4 Way Test to resolve an issue. Each part could be used to prove either a positive or negative point. The District level contest is held in two rounds, a semi-final round and the finals. Both rounds take place on April 12, 2025
Winners from the Club level are grouped at random to compete in the semi-final round. One winner from each group advances to the Finals. How
Club Chairs must reach out to High Schools and establish relationships with Principals and a Point of Contact (could be a teacher or an administrator). Please feel free to customize the ‘Invitation letter to Principal’ and PowerPoint presentation to cultivate relationships with schools. What Each club must decide what it thinks are appropriate prizes, and how many prizes are to be awarded. Clubs are eligible to advance two (2) winners per school to the District level contest. Clubs that have more than 1 school in their jurisdiction can determine the number of students that they send to the District contest (subject to the two (2) winners per school rule). Clubs are responsible to register and pay admission fees for students to participate at the District level contest, prior to March 25, 2025. ![]()

Medina County Service Club members, from many backgrounds and faith traditions, come together on Good Friday, as one, to worship and pray as a community for God's hand on our city.
We enjoy fellowship with believers from around our city, are inspired by a keynote speaker, as we unite in service, prepare for Easter, and pray as one community.
This year, we are hosted by Medina Odd Fellows. |

Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul P. Harris. Harris was born on 19 April 1868 in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. At age 3, he moved to Wallingford, Vermont, where he grew up in the care of his paternal grandparents. He attended the University of Vermont and Princeton University and received his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1891. In 1896, Harris settled in Chicago and opened a law practice. Four years later, he met fellow attorney Bob Frank for dinner on Chicago’s North Side. Harris eventually persuaded several business associates to discuss the idea of forming an organization for local professionals. On 23 February 1905, Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey gathered at Loehr’s office in downtown Chicago for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting. In February 1907, Harris was elected the third president of the Rotary Club of Chicago. Toward the end of his presidency, he worked to expand Rotary beyond the city. Harris died on 27 January 1947 in Chicago at age 78, after a prolonged illness. Before his death, he made it known that he preferred contributions to The Rotary Foundation in lieu of flowers. Rotary has grown to be a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who are organized into 45,000 clubs and embrace a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. |

World Immunization Week: Protecting children through lifesaving vaccinesThis year's observance of World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, signals a renewed effort to prevent an estimated 2 to 3 million deaths worldwide from vaccine-preventable diseases, including polio, by closing immunization gaps. The extensive polio-eradication infrastructure created by Rotary, its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), and governments and health ministries provides a model for this effort. Rotary, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) joined together in 1988 to form GPEI with the goal of protecting the world's children by eradicating polio. At that time, the disease paralyzed more than 1,000 people -- most of them young children – worldwide every day. Over the years, Rotary and its partners have reduced the number of polio cases by 99 percent, to fewer than 400 cases in 2014, and there are now only three countries in which polio transmission has never been stopped. "Rotarians have played a key role in bringing the world to the cusp of polio eradication," says Mike McGovern, chair of Rotary's International PolioPlus Committee. "They have contributed more than $1.3 billion to polio eradication, they have petitioned their governments to support the cause, and they have donated countless hours to immunize children throughout the world. These achievements have laid the groundwork for a lasting legacy for the world's children." Rotary and its partners are looking to carry out a legacy health plan Ensuring that the knowledge generated and lessons learned from years of polio eradication activities are shared with other health initiatives. |
