Saha Bihn & Grace Conrad from Buckeye, Isabella Field from Medina, and Bethany Yu from Highland were each presented with a red rose, The Inkspot - Medina County Schools' Literary Magazine, and a Rotary scholarship check for $1,000 from Medina Sunrise Rotary Club at the annual DR. MAHADEO CHAND "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" ROTARY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS Awards Breakfast which is held each year at Rustic Hills Country Club in Medina.

"This year, these highly competitive scholarships honor the name and life of Dr. Mahadeo Chand and represent his legacy of academic excellence, 'Service above Self', and leadership," stated Scholarship Chairman Dr. David Loeper on behalf of his scholarship committee which included: Dennis Powers, Medina County ESC Superintendent Will Koran and Judge Judith Cross.

Dr. Shail Jain, daughter of Dr. Mahadeo Chand, was accompanied by her mother and her family. She delivered the keynote address. "As we reflect on the wisdom of my father's words and his years of selfless service, I challenge you scholarship winners today to do two things: First, become involved with your community, your family, your friends and your future and second, be passionate in your dreams, thoughts, words and actions. If you remember this and do this, you will be successful in making a positive impact on changing the lives of the people you meet and the world in which we live."

As role models for the students and visible examples of Excellence, Service and Leadership, Dr. Loeper recognized Buckeye Schools Superintendent Kent Morgan, Cloverleaf Superintendent Dr. Daryl Kubilus, Highland's Past Superintendent Dr. Mike Carlson, and Medina County's ESC Superintendent Will Koran. Dr. Loeper was assisted in the scholarship awards ceremony by Ohio Army National Guard Sergeant Kevin Clark, who escorted the scholarship winners and presented them with a red rose for their mothers. Sergeant Clark, a combat medic, was recently posted to Medina and represents the strong school partnership and commitment to service above self and youth development which the US Military has in our community.

Dr. Shail Jain, who was presented with red roses by Sergeant Kevin Clark, also congratulated the Medina County high school scholars - Sarah Bihn, Grace Conrad, Isabella Field, and Bethany Yu, expressing every confidence in their future success.  "We are thankful for the caring support of their families and schools, the generous funding of the Medina Sunrise Rotary Club and the ultimate contributions of the men and women who serve in our nation's military, and who show continued faith in youth -- that 'Today’s scholars will become tomorrow's community and world leaders'.  Good Luck Class of 2018!"
