ROTARY WAS A SIGNATOR TO THE ORIGINAL UNITED NATIONS CHARTER IN 1942
Rotary and the United Nations have a shared history of working toward peace and addressing humanitarian issues around the world.
The UN General Assembly passed a unanimous resolution in 1981 establishing the International Day of Peace, also known as Peace Day, observed 21 September. Several Rotary members were instrumental in the movement that lead up to that action, stretching all the way back to the 1960s, when Avon Mattison, now a member of the Rotary E-Club of World Peace, held informal peace councils with international students in Washington D.C. Other members of the club are active in Pathways to Peace, which works to increase awareness and participation in the day. Read more and discover ways you can observe Peace Day.
