Medina Sunrise Rotary had the pleasure of holding our meeting at the Medina County Career Center, where we learned more about the outstanding skilled trade programs within the Ken Cleveland Construction Academy and the many ways they are working with community partnerships and preparing students for in-demand careers.

Career Services Coordinator Danielle McMaster welcomed us with an overview of MCCC’s 50 years of service excellence and introduced the morning’s speakers:

• Adam Hyre, Construction Electricity instructor, joined by student Jacob, who shared his experience as a Senior in the program and his plans to serve in the US Coast Guard.

• Todd Mason, a veteran Construction Trades instructor, accompanied by MCCC Junior Preston, who spoke about the opportunities the program is creating for students

• Mike Foore, HVAC Program instructor, highlighted the hands-on training students receive in heating and cooling systems and the apprenticeships with partner companies in Northeast Ohio.

• Patrick Shaughnessy, MCCC Counselor and School-Military Liaison, spoke of student involvement in the Wreaths Across America program at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, and the school’s Purple Star Award designation which recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to serving our country through a career in the Armed Forces.

A key takeaway from our visit was a call to action for local employers: if you are hiring interns, apprentices, or entry-level team members, please consider connecting with these talented and motivated students.

Thank you to Superintendent Steve Chrisman and the Medina County Career Center for hosting us, for the important work you do each day to support students and strengthen our community and for another 50 years of building a better community!
